Botanical Name: Cinnamomum cassia Blume, C. aromanticum Nees.
Description: This tree is native to South China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. In India only a few plants are available. It is grown at altitudes up to 300 mtr MSL with a mean daily temperature of about 23 degree C and an annual rainfall of 1250 mm in about 135 wet days. It is a light demanding tree, slightly shade tolerant when young, preferring cool and wet condition.
Chemical Constituents: The chief constituents of the essential oil of Cassia are benzaldehyde, chavicol, cinnamic aldehyde, cinnamyl acetate and linalool.
Properties: Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an anti-diarrhea, antidepressant, anti-emetic, antimicrobial, anti-rheumatic, anti-arthritic, astringent, antiviral, carminative and stimulant substance. It is a week CNS stimulant and spasmolytic. It is hypoglycemic and increases peripheral blood flow.
